“Do it yourself”guide to obtaining United States citizenship

Hi, my name is Andrea.

There’s just no way around it. To become a US citizen the N-400 application needs to be completed correctly.

It doesn’t matter how many times you go to the USCIS (United States Citizenship and Immigration Services) website or talk to people about what you should be doing. Without the ability to follow a step by step process and get RESULTS all the talk in the world won’t help.

Many times the problem isn’t a lack of desire to become a U.S. citizen, it’s the fear of doing something wrong on your paper work and getting it rejected or worse, getting kicked out of the country. You need support and guidance to complete the application N-400.

Making your life better or protecting your family or even achieving the American dream is much more about following a procedure than just desiring to be a U.S. citizen.

You can buy books and talk to friends all day long, but without expert guidance to complete the N-400, what good does it do you?

I am now a U.S. citizen.

Looking back, 12 years ago I wouldn’t have dreamed that this would have happened.

I had been accepted to a good university in Bogota-Colombia to become an attorney, but to my surprise, I was informed by my parents that we were moving to Florida! I was in total shock. It was probably one of the most memorable experiences in my life.

I started college in Florida at Palm Beach Atlantic University in August of 1998. I clearly remember taking Introduction to Business and realizing my knowledge of English was not enough to get by. Maybe it was, but I felt like I was hearing it all for the first time. My mind would go blank, and I had to work really hard to succeed in my studies.

I graduated in May of 2002 with two majors International Business and Marketing. I felt I was 100% bilingual believing in myself and what I had accomplished. Back then I only had a Student Visa and was ready to work the one year after college students are allowed. During my last year of college my parents moved to Texas.

So, Texas was my new home. I started looking for a job, lined up interviews BUT, no companies were sponsoring professionals with Work VISA’s. I was very disappointed that a work VISA was stopping me from finding my dream job.

I know you can relate to my story. No sponsor = No job. Now what…
